Pitch Shift for macOS

Privacy Policy

Your audio stays on your Mac. Here is what the app stores locally, what Apple handles, and the choices you have.

Effective and last updated:

1. About this policy

This policy describes Pitch Shift, the macOS menu bar app provided by SootheTrail Solutions LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”). The app changes the pitch of system audio in real time. You do not need to create an account.

This policy covers the app and privacy inquiries about it. The legal pages themselves are static: they load no third-party fonts, analytics scripts or tracking cookies. Website hosting may process ordinary request information, such as an IP address and requested URL, to deliver and protect these pages. See our website privacy policy for website practices.

2. System audio and permission

With your permission, Pitch Shift accesses system audio while tuning is running. Audio passes through temporary in-memory buffers on your Mac and is sent to the selected system output. The app does not create audio recordings, save audio files, upload audio or send it to us or a third-party processing service.

Pitch Shift uses macOS System Audio Recording access for its core functionality. It does not capture microphone input. Stopping tuning releases the audio session; revoking the permission prevents further system audio access until you allow it again.

3. Information kept on your Mac

Pitch Shift stores the following locally to provide the app:

  • Tuning choices and preferences, including appearance, audio mode and menu bar display.
  • Cached App Store price, currency and storefront information so the purchase page can display previously loaded information.
  • First-use date, active listening duration, usage dates, review-request attempts and purchase-activity timestamps used to avoid asking for a review too early, too frequently or during a purchase.

These records are not audio recordings. They are not sent to us, used to identify you across apps or shared with advertising or analytics services. Review requests use Apple’s system mechanism; Apple decides whether to show a prompt, and the app cannot tell whether you submitted a rating.

App-owned diagnostic logging is off by default in Release builds. Explicitly enabled diagnostics stay in the local macOS logging system; Pitch Shift has no automatic log-upload feature. macOS may manage its own system diagnostics separately.

4. Purchases and Apple services

Apple processes in-app purchases. Pitch Shift uses StoreKit on your device to retrieve product information and verify, restore or revoke Pro access. We do not receive your payment card details, and the app does not send transaction records to a developer-operated server.

Apple independently handles App Store accounts, payments, transaction history and ratings under Apple’s Privacy Policy. Clearing local app data does not remove purchases or other records held by Apple.

5. When you contact support

Contacting support is optional. Choosing “Send Email” opens your mail app with our address and a subject; you decide what to send. Pitch Shift does not automatically attach audio, logs or device information. Choosing “Copy Email Address” only places the address on your clipboard.

If you email us, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your email address, message and attachments. We use it to answer, investigate and resolve your request. Correspondence may be processed by our email provider to deliver and store messages, subject to appropriate confidentiality and data protection obligations. We do not sell support correspondence or use it for advertising.

We keep correspondence only as long as reasonably necessary to resolve and follow up on the request, or to meet applicable legal obligations. You can ask us to access, correct or delete information you provided, subject to applicable law.

6. Your controls and deletion choices

  • Stop audio access: use the app’s power button or quit Pitch Shift.
  • Revoke permission: open System Settings → Privacy & Security and turn off Pitch Shift’s system audio recording access. The recording category’s name can vary by macOS version.
  • Remove local records: quit Pitch Shift, then remove its sandbox container at ~/Library/Containers/com.soothetrail.pitchshift. This resets local preferences, cached prices and review-reminder records. Simply deleting the app may leave local data behind. Contact us if you need help locating the container.
  • Manage Apple records: contact Apple for App Store account, payment, purchase-history or review requests. Deleting local records does not cancel or erase a purchase.
  • Request support-data deletion: email us using the address below. We cannot remotely access local app records on your Mac.

7. Security and tracking

The app uses the macOS App Sandbox and system permission controls. It has no developer account system, advertising SDK, analytics SDK or cross-app tracking. Audio processing uses on-device code rather than a remote service.

Protecting your Mac and mail account also protects locally stored settings and support messages. No security measure can guarantee absolute protection.

8. Updates and contact

If our practices change, we will update this policy and its date. Where required, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before a new data practice takes effect.
